What is Embalming?

Embalming can ensure a safe and positive experience when viewing a loved one. There are three reasons why we embalm.
The first is to sanitise the body and render any micro-organisms harmless. We do this by disinfecting the entire body.
The Natural decomposition of a human body starts to take place very soon after death. The preserving effect of embalming slows down this process so that family members have time to pay their final respects. It also helps bereaved friends and family come to terms with the death of their loved one.

Qualified Embalmers

Finally, we aim to present your loved one looking natural and peaceful so that this important time together is as positive an experience as it can be.
Your funeral director will be happy to discuss your options more fully with you.

Embalming is not a legal requirement in New Zealand. It is entirely optional. The process is carried out in a caring and dignified manner by qualified embalmers, or supervised by a member of NZEA, New Zealand Embalmers Association. Our embalmers strictly adhere to the NZEA Code of Ethics.
