Financial Matters

Aoraki Funeral Services offers a wide range of choices regarding the type and cost of funeral arrangements. If you have limited means, it will be helpful to discuss this with your Funeral Director at the earliest opportunity so that together you can plan a funeral that suits your circumstances. You may qualify for a funeral grant from Work and Income (WINZ) and the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC). We can help you make applications for these. We can also provide advice and assistance on the range of help that may be available to you and your family to cover funeral costs. ​

Joint Bank Accounts

​When a death occurs, bank accounts in the name of the deceased are frozen and, in some cases, cannot be accessed until after Probate is granted. To ensure ongoing access by a spouse or partner, the bank accounts should be in joint names. This needs to be done before death to ensure that the surviving partner can access funds until probate has been completed.

Payment of Your Account

Sometimes, estate settlement is delayed by Probate. When this occurs, families should pay the funeral account by the due date and recover the funds from the estate when it is settled. We will send the invoice directly to the person who made the funeral arrangements and signed the authorization form because they are responsible for paying the account. If required, we’re happy to send a copy to the solicitor.

​Unless specific arrangements have been made, the due date for full payment is 28 days from the invoice date.
