You may very well find yourself feeling exhausted, physically, mentally and emotionally. If needed, try and catch up on sleep and eat regular meals. Often in times of stress, we will shallow breath. Regularly stopping to take a few deep breaths can be beneficial. Reach out for support if you need to. It is time to look after you.

Take a Moment

​Once the funeral service is over, you may need to take a breather and relax for a few days. Make the most of your time with family and friends while they are around and able to support you.  When you feel ready, there are a few things still to do.

For some people, it works well to have a list of who they want to contact for when you are ready. 

What Next?

​Suppose a solicitor is looking after the estate. In that case, this may be the time to contact and discuss the arrangements for administering the estate, paying accounts and closing bank accounts etc. 

​If you are doing this yourself, you will most likely need the death certificate to begin this process. Some people like to get these tasks completed as soon as possible, while others prefer to take a little longer to organise all the details. Family and friends may offer their help, and if you feel comfortable with their assistance, accepting their offer may relieve you of stress and provide them with some comfort in knowing that they are supporting you.
