Many families choose to honour the passions in their loved one’s life by staging the setting in which the casket stands before and during the service. Choosing to add personal items dear to your loved one’s heart helps create a very personal space that sparks memories for family and friends attending the service. Their things tell a story about who they were and what they loved.

Some simple ways are:

Eddie was a passionate golfer whose pride and joy was a costly set of titanium clubs. His crowning achievement was a hole-in-one on a local golf course. His golf clubs sat beside his casket, and his trophy and golf gloves sat on top. These small personal touches enhanced the funeral, reminding family and friends of the man and the many happy days he spent on the golf course." |
Tina was a primary school teacher who loved tramping on weekends. Many of the children she taught drew pictures, and these were displayed on a whiteboard behind her casket. The schoolchildren were glad to have been able to play a part in farewelling their teacher. The fact that they had something constructive to do for her made it somehow more manageable for them. Tina’s tramping boots sat on the end of her casket with her sleeping bag. Her backpack sat underneath as a representation of her love of nature and the great outdoors. |
George fell in love with his first model train, given to him by his grandfather when he was only four. It was to become a lifelong love affair, so of course, some of George’s favourite trains were present at his funeral. His tatty old slippers were also there to remind his loved ones of the many hours they’d sat with him with his feet up beside the fire, drinking hot chocolate. |
